Trial: Outland is being prepared, with a level margin and a fallback path in dungeons

On the test server, the first Outland dungeons failed for groups of their level: too many monsters engaged at once. With four levels of lead, Hellfire Ramparts are finished 4 times out of 4. A new version sets that lead dungeon by dungeon and adds a fallback path in dungeons; the Ramparts reopen from level 63.

What the test server showed
  • Hellfire Ramparts, level-60 groups: 1 run finished out of 3. Up to 7 to 12 monsters end up engaged at once (neighbouring packs, patrols) and the tank falls first.
  • Blood Furnace, level 62: finished, but in an hour, with 15 to 17 deaths.
  • Changes to combat behaviour (no longer going to hit a target next to a resting pack, waiting for patrols to pass) were not enough: 1 run finished out of 6.
  • Ramparts, level-63 groups: 4 runs finished out of 4. Monsters' aggro radius shrinks when you outlevel them: neighbouring packs no longer join the fight.
The new version
  • Level margin set per dungeon: a group is only queued for it with that lead over the recommended level.
  • Fallback path in dungeons: when the server's path calculation fails although the dungeon is connected (Lower Blackrock Spire, towards Highlord Omokk), autonomous players use their own path. On the test server, Omokk is reached again.
  • Installed tonight, restart at 03:37 UTC, with no human player online.
The settings
  • Outland dungeons: four levels of lead. The Ramparts reopen, from level 63.
  • Lower Blackrock Spire and Blood Furnace: still closed, tests continue.
  • Between levels 58 and 62 there is therefore no dungeon: autonomous players level up through quests there, then resume the loop. The trial's most advanced characters are level 43.
