First start blocked: stale temporary credentials file

Automatic database population failed (MySQL access denied) because the worldserver's temporary credentials file could not be rewritten. The server now has its own private temporary directory.

Symptom

On first start, the worldserver opens its MySQL connections fine but importing account.sql fails: ERROR 1045 Access denied. The service stops immediately.

Cause

To import SQL files, the worldserver calls the mysql client and passes the password through a mysql_ac.conf file written to the system temporary directory. A file with that name, left by the previous installation and owned by a deleted account, already existed: the write silently failed and the client read the old password.

Fix

  • Stale file removed.
  • TempDir points to a directory dedicated to the server (mode 700, server account only), added to the systemd service's writable paths.
  • The databases had stayed empty: no cleanup needed before restarting.
