Dungeons: "Do dungeons" and a search completed in one minute

A player can now choose "Do dungeons" in auto mode. Their dungeon search, random or chosen, is completed by autonomous players in game, then, after 60 seconds, by temporary brains of their item level. On the test server, the group forms in less than a minute. Group combat, roles and the autonomous players' sign-up were also reworked.

The finding

From 13 to 30 October, the autonomous players only did 164 dungeon runs:

  • 15% of bosses killed, and no success in Outland or Northrend;
  • roles came from class alone: paladins, druids and shamans were never tanks or healers;
  • healers often stayed in Shadowform, without healing;
  • tanks died first, overwhelmed;
  • the queue held one tank for 0.18 healer and 5.4 damage dealers, and only 10% of sign-ups succeeded;
  • the random dungeon, which gives the satchel and emblems, did not work.
The fixes
  • Group combat:
  • the tank takes its stance before pulling, starts with the smallest pack and waits for its group;
  • paladins, shamans and druids finally heal, the tank first;
  • the healer leaves Shadowform to heal;
  • the dead and pets are raised between fights;
  • two wipes on the same pack make the group leave the dungeon;
  • entry refusals caused by a fall not reset properly are fixed.
  • Sign-up:
  • roles are read from talents; below level 40, a character ticks every role it has the tools for, and the game chooses;
  • access is judged by real strength;
  • the random dungeon is fixed and preferred;
  • dungeons with vehicles, escorts or dialogues are set aside;
  • a queued character stays available for its group.
  • For players:
  • auto mode offers "Do dungeons", random or a chosen dungeon;
  • a player's search is completed first by free autonomous players in game, then, after 60 seconds, by temporary brains of their level and item level, who leave them the loot;
  • these brains come from a pool of dedicated accounts, never mixed with players' accounts, and are removed at every start.
Checked on the test server
  • Random search by a lone level 20 player: four temporary brains are called at 45 seconds, ready 3 seconds later at level 20 with 16 pieces each, and the group is formed and teleported after 56 seconds.
  • "Do dungeons" mode: same sequence, group formed in 55 seconds. In the dungeon, the tank pulls, the healer shields, the player's character follows. No death.
  • Groups of autonomous players alone: no group formed yet in an hour. Each faction lacked a tank or a healer: the finder does not mix factions, and above level 40, switching roles requires a trip to the trainer.
  • No error, no crash, and normal CPU use.
Still open
  • Groups made of autonomous players alone, which lack tanks and healers.
  • Low level warriors without Defensive Stance, learned through a class quest that is not handled.
  • Progress inside the dungeon, safe but slow.
  • Raids, the next step of the work.
Deployment

The new module version is installed on the server. The autonomous players stay stopped; a player's dungeon search works right now.
