No more queues under an unreachable NPC
About forty autonomous players were waiting under an unreachable target: 12 orcs and trolls under Furl Scornbrow, perched 21 m up at the top of his tower; 21 draenei 15 m from Zalduun, lying in the wreck; 10 humans above a quest trigger 30 m below in the Fargodeep Mine. An approach watchdog now sets aside any target one no longer gets closer to, and the last off-mesh metres can be crossed on sight.

Finding (reported by another session, checked in the database)
| Place | Players | Target | Gap | |---|---|---|---| | Razor Hill | 12 | Furl Scornbrow (“Taking Responsibility”) | 21 m above, same vertical | | Ammen Vale | 21 | Zalduun (“Urgent Delivery!”) | 15-20 m, inside the wreck | | Fargodeep Mine | 10 | exploration trigger | 30 m below, in the tunnels |
The computed path stopped short; movement was restarted endlessly towards the same point, without ever counting a failure.
Fixes
- Approach watchdog: if the distance to the same target does not drop by at least 1 m within 30 s, the target is set aside for 10 minutes and the event logged.
- Useless partial path: a path that stops where one already stands, far from the goal, is no longer restarted; the core path then the last metres are tried.
- Last metres: in a straight line up to 15 m (instead of 6) when the path stops short, provided the view is clear and the height difference under 4 m — like a player stepping over the wreck's debris.
