Leaving a deadly region: as a ghost, to a safe graveyard

The automatic death-streak alert fired on its very first run: Ariton, a level 9 paladin, died 59 times in 15 minutes. The nearest spirit healer was at the Raven Hill cemetery, crawling with level 23-25 skeletons: each resurrection meant death within 3 seconds. A ghost fears nothing; it now walks to a spirit healer in a safe place. And with no hearthstone available, a player on a death streak leaves the region on foot to a safe inn or flight master.

The alert

freewill-deaths-report (every 5 min): *ALERT death streaks: Ariton (59 deaths in 15 min)*. Without Ariton, the window has 48 deaths in 15 min, about 64 per 20 min versus 86-95 before the latest fixes.

Why the death-streak safeguard was not enough

It triggered the hearthstone… on a one-hour cooldown. And the “region too dangerous → spirit healer” rule took the nearest spirit healer: the one at Raven Hill, among the undead.

Fixes

  1. Safe graveyard: as a ghost in a region far above its level, the character picks a spirit healer whose surroundings (70 m) have no monster more than 4 levels above, up to 6 km away, walks there (monsters ignore ghosts) and resurrects. First try: Ariton walked 1 min 30 and resurrected safely.
  2. Evacuation on foot: on a death streak with no hearthstone available, the character heads for the nearest friendly innkeeper or flight master in a safe place, along a path avoiding dangerous areas; if it is a flight master, it discovers the flight point and flies home.

Monitoring

The automatic analysis now writes its death-streak alerts (4 deaths in 15 min) into the watchdog log.
